Anthurium
By William Chia Yong Liang, MFPA
"Anthurium" depicts the striking Anthurium flower, known for its glossy red spathes and distinctive shape. A butterfly, drawn with delicate wings outstretched, approaches the flower, adding a touch of whimsy and natural beauty to the scene.
About
William became quadriplegic after an unfortunate diving accident in 1981 and lost his ability to speak following a stroke in 2007. However, with much persistence and rehabilitation, his condition improved and William was able to move around with a wheelchair. Encouraged by his wife, William began exploring painting with his mouth. After hours of practice, he now paints detailed watercolor landscapes and views the activity as therapeutic, giving him strength and confidence.
