By Wesley Seah, ART:DIS

The painting "Rooster" by Wesley Seah, created in 2017, is a significant Chinese ink artwork that represents one of Wesley's earliest animal paintings. As an artist who is visually impaired, Wesley initially faced challenges in capturing the rooster's form, requiring extensive practice. To address this, he chose a simplified and highly abstract representation, allowing viewers to interpret the image according to their own imagination and emotions. The artwork, characterized by minimal strokes, reflects Wesley's early exploration of minimalist techniques in animal representation, showcasing his belief that simplicity can enhance artistic expression and significance.

About
Wesley was born sighted and enjoyed a thriving business as a headhunter. However, a rare condition of glaucoma struck out of the blue, causing his sight to deteriorate and leaving him completely blind in one eye with limited vision in the other. Despite these abrupt challenges, Wesley maintains a positive outlook and is Head of Quality Assurance at Dialogue in the Dark. In 2015, he explored Chinese ink painting and found it a therapeutic medium for expressing his thoughts. Through countless hours of training and practice, including courses at LASALLE College of the Arts, Wesley honed his style, depicting energy and movement through simple strokes. At ART:DIS, he was encouraged to expand his portfolio to include color and explore other mediums such as acrylic.
